Once upon a time, anyone who wanted to order grass-fed beef in bulk would have had to either visit the farm in person to make arrangements, or would have had to make a phone call.
Today, most farms like ours take full advantage of modern technology to deliver an excellent customer service experience. Yet there are still some quirks of ordering bulk beef online you should know, especially if you’ve never done it before.
Check the Delivery and Pick-Up Radius
Many farms won’t ship their beef nationwide, even when you order by the pound. This is because it’s difficult and expensive to keep the beef fresh and safe when you send it too far away.
Always check the farm’s shipping policy before ordering any beef. For example, our farm doesn’t offer shipping, but we do provide free delivery for all orders over $150 to any location within 50 miles of our farm.
If you live farther away than that you’ll have to pick up your own order. We promise it’s worth the drive!

Check the Cut Dates
Some farms require you to deal with the butcher yourself. We don’t. We handle all that for you, but that means we send our meat to the butcher on a regular schedule. We send two cows a month, which means there are a limited number of dates we have on offer. Starting in January 2025, we’ll be sending 3 cows a month to keep up with demand.
The number of cows getting sent is less important than the fact that you’ll need to book a cut date, as well as a pick up or delivery date. You won’t get your meat the moment you put down your deposit.
Check Your Storage Space
Now is a good time to check your storage space. Make some room in your freezer, or buy a separate freezer just for bulk beef. You’ll want to get your meat right into the freezer as soon as you get it!

Put Down Your Deposit
Decide how much beef you’ll need to buy, put down your deposit, and get an estimate on how much you’ll need to pay when you finally get your meat.
If you’re worried about paying so much at a time, why not save some money (and get more meat) by going in with a friend or neighbor? That way both of you reap the health benefits and the cost savings! It’s a common practice here in Tomball.
