Grass-Fed Beef: More Expensive, Still the Better Choice

Why Grass-Fed Beef is More Expensive, and Why It’s Still the Better Choice

Everyone’s tightening their purse strings right now. So if you’re hesitant to purchase farm-fresh, grass-fed beef, then you’re hardly alone.

And there’s no denying it: grass-fed beef costs more than conventional beef.

But the higher price isn’t arbitrary. It reflects a completely different, arguably better, and much slower production process.

Why does grass-fed beef cost so much?

Grass-fed operations require significantly more land per animal than concentration feedlots. Blessings Ranch prioritizes rotational grazing, which is healthier for the cattle and the land.

But it is more resource intensive.

And can take months longer. In fact, it can take up to 30% longer for our cattle to be ready for market.

The cost also includes everything the cattle doesn’t receive. No cheap grain fillers. No hormones. No unnecessary antibiotics. That means we invest in preventative healthcare instead, which can be expensive.

Are the benefits of grass-fed beef worth the price?

Obviously we think so, but let’s make our case. There are three ways that grass-fed beef delivers superior value.

  • Health benefits. The same amount of beef for fewer calories. Significantly higher levels of omega-3 fatty acids. More vitamins A and E. You get more bang out of every bite.
  • Ethics. Look, most people aren’t cruel by nature, and we’re willing to bet you’re the same. Most people don’t love the idea of abusing animals so they can eat. With grass-fed beef you get an animal who lives a happy life before coming to a painless end.
  • Flavor. The slow, natural diet of our cows results in beef that delivers a rich, complex flavor. You are, in fact, receiving the real beef flavor, the one that’s truest to nature. If you want a better culinary experience, it’s hard to beat grass-fed.

Keep in mind that there are some great ways to enjoy grass-fed beef without breaking your budget. And, in fact, if you invest in bulk beef you might ultimately end up paying far less per pound…a way to enjoy all the benefits without the financial drawbacks. It all depends on how you plan, shop, and use the beef you get.

Invest in your health, your community, and greater enjoyment at the table.

The differences in cost between grass-fed and grain-fed are a direct trade-off: you pay less for speed and industrial efficiency, but more for ethical sourcing, nutritional density, and exceptional flavor.

The expense of grass-fed beef is not a cost. It’s an investment in your health, your community, and the well-being of the animals.
